LeFrak Gymnasium

LeFrak Gymnasium began its life as "The New Gymnasium" in 1976, when it was constructed at the cost of $1.37 million. It was located alongside the other athletic buildings, in between the
Cage and the Alumni Gymnasium. On the morning of March 9, 1985, a wiring problem sparked a fire that destroyed the gym and damaged the neighboring squash courts and pool.

The new gym was built with financial assistance from Samuel Jayson LeFrak, father of a member of of the class of 1967, using the same plan and on the same location by Daniel F. Tully Associates. The new gymnasium was ready by the fall of 1986 (Archives and Special Collections, Buildings and Grounds Collection, box 15, folder 3). LeFrak is also used for concerts, including the Indigo Girls, Bob Dylan, and Beck in recent years.
