Taplin Hall, still commonly known as "A-Dorm," was finished in September 1978. As the Amherst Student of September 11, 1978 reported, "The rooming crush of two years ago has been alleviated by the enimgmatically-named "A" and "B" Dormitories, both hurriedly constructed last spring and summer as the College moved to assuage its growing pains."
