The College Garage was built in 1929, designed by James Kellum Smith, with the total cost covered by George D. Pratt.
This donation led President King to describe Pratt as having "...imaginative generosity. I knew
of no one else who would give a garage" (King, 186). The Garage houses College vehicles, objects of one of the first
Amherstiana-related projects I undertook, a Catalog of the Vehicles of Amherst College
(visit the "catalog" to hear how the story ended). (Photos taken
12 October 2001 and 1 June 2002). |
